Michael Davis and Phillip Wasson Obituary: Richmond County – Sheriff’s Office Mourns Loss of Two Deputies

Michael Davis and Phillip Wasson Obituary, RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of two people of its agency who lost his life less than 24 hours apart, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Jailer Michael Davis unexpectedly passed away yesterday afternoon following a medical emergency. Davis had dedicated 28 years of service to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and was assigned to D Shift at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

The sheriff’s office said Davis’ death has left his colleagues grieving alongside his relatives and friends. During his nearly three decades of service, he became part of the agency’s public and was remembered by the sheriff’s office as a deputy, coworker, friend and member of its loved ones.

The agency suffered another loss the following morning when Deputy Phillip Wasson lost his life after a traffic collision. Wasson served with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for 18 years and was assigned to the Traffic Division.

Together, Davis and Wasson represented 46 years of service to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Richmond County. The agency stated their contributions could not be measured simply by the number of years they served, describing both deputies as brothers within the sheriff’s office.

The deaths have left two families grieving while coworkers throughout the agency mourn alongside them. Sheriff Eugene Brantley and the entire Richmond County Sheriff’s Office asked the public to keep the Davis and Wasson families, their friends and fellow deputies in their thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead.

Service arrangements for both deputies had not yet been finalized at the time of the announcement and will be released once they are available. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office honored both men for their years of service and remarked their dedication to the agency and the citizens they served will not be forgotten.
