The Bell 206 helicopter came down in the Tholos area of the Aegean island after taking off near the Greek capital on Monday, per to reports from Athens newspaper Ta Nea. The pilot reportedly said he was preparing to land before radio contact was lost.
Local media reported that the helicopter rapidly lost altitude before crashing and bursting into flames. Footage shared on social media revealed smoke rising from the wreckage, while emergency services were called to the scene at around 6.15pm local time.
Cromie worked at asset management firm Blackstone, where he served as a vice president in private wealth solutions. A company spokesperson said the firm was shocked by the deaths and described Cromie as someone who was beloved by those who knew and worked with him.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Cromie spent four years at Blackstone. He initially joined the company as an associate in private wealth solutions before being promoted to vice president in January.
Ebert worked at management consultancy Bain and Company, where she held the position of senior specialist, based on to her LinkedIn profile. A spokesperson for Bain and Company said the firm was shocked by reports of the accident involving one of its colleagues and her husband.
The deaths have prompted tributes and expressions of sympathy from the companies where Cromie and Ebert worked. Their colleagues have offered support to the families affected as authorities continue to deal with the aftermath of the helicopter crash.
